Tita Nzebi is the stage name of Huguette Lekat, a Gabonese singer, composer and writer born in Mbigou. She sings in Nzebi, a Central African language, and crosses that repertoire with music from elsewhere. Four records since 2011, including Réminiscence in 2026.
Tita Nzebi is the stage name of Huguette Lekat, a Gabonese singer, composer and writer born in Mbigou, in the province of Ngounié.
She writes and sings in Nzebi, the language of her region, and holds within a single song what we are not used to hearing together: a vigil melody and a blues line, a zither and a double bass. This is not a blend arranged for the occasion, it is how she learnt music.
Her first record, Mbiss Miti, came out in 2008, followed by Metiani in 2011. From Kolkata was born in 2019 of a tour in India and a meeting with musicians from Bengal. In 2021, Mouma’ngue gathered lullabies and songs that carry the Nzebi heritage forward. Réminiscence, released in 2026 on her own label Bibaka and produced by Leny Bidens, marks a return to the sound world of childhood.
On stage she performs solo, voice and zither, as readily as with a full band.

Huguette Lekat, plus connue sous le nom de Tita Nzebi, est autrice, compositrice et interprète. Elle puise son inspiration dans le riche répertoire traditionnel des Nzebi, une communauté du sud du Gabon dont elle est issue. Son quatrième album, “Réminiscence”, vient de sortir sous son propre label, Bibaka. On pourra l’entendre bientôt sur scène à Bruxelles, au Festival l’Afrique en couleurs, les 29 et 30 août.
